when you ask questions, you only end up with more questions.
not wanting to be understood, yet yearning to feel understood.
don't believe what you see.
for masks have always existed, yet never known.
how can you tell if the person opposite you isn't an actor, merely masquerading to entertain you, just for that little while...
you laugh, you smile, but in truth, she is crying.
do you see that?
no, the mask never cracks.
even after the curtain falls, the audience merely claps. Applause please!
and the actor hides behind the stage, cursing her own indifference.
"Oh, I am too good."
know thyself?
she laughs.
all that the audience sees, is merely a lie.
and yet, one member of the audience stays in his seat.
he does not applaud, he does not laugh, he does not smile.
for he has seen the other side of reason, fate and truth.
the masquerade's requiem plays, the actor is stirred.
he understands.
the world is not always as it seems.
he reaches out to her mask, pulling the strings that bind her face to the offending object.
he stops.
he does not need to continue.
he has eyes, so does she.
he sees the other side of truth, finally.
no words need to be spoken.
a little hush please.
a shadow of a smile graces his lips, a tear escapes from the edge of her argent crystal mask.
they embrace.
a little hush please.
the theatre is quiet once again, peace has tamed chaos.
Applause please!
shhhhh.
all is quiet again.
