The smell of gunpower invaded, no,
burned her senses. It stung with such ferocity, she wondered if this wasn't real.
She knew it was.
Another explosion, seemingly closer this time, much closer. It was hard to tell actually, what with her ears partially deaf from the enraged roars of the battlefield, thunderous, demonic, resonating to her very core.
She responded in the only way her body knew how: she ran.
She tried to anyway, her injured legs leaving a grotesque trail of crimson behind her. It didn't matter if they would find her later. All that mattered was surviving
now.
The world was a blur, everything was a blur. She didn't know which way she was running, didn't know whether she was running to salvation or death. Didn't know if she could even live beyond the next few seconds -
"Hold it right there."
She was shoved to the ground, although her body seemed to have shut out the pain from the fall. Her brain and pain receptors were probably overloaded as they were. She didn't turn around to see who her attacker was.
She didn't care.
All she felt was the cool metal barrel being pressed to her temple. She thought she heard the weapon mocking her, it's maniacal laughter coming out as short, mechanical, malicious grunts (she didn't see the soldiers cocking their guns).
She couldn't even ask why, before she felt her own blood on her face, before the world receded into black.
Why?
